Karen Bancroft Bondaruk, 74, died of natural causes Sept. 4 in Portland. There was a private service.

Mrs. Bondaruk was born May 16, 1946, in Portland. She was valedictorian of Villa St Rose High School in 1964. She graduated from Portland State University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology with high honors in 1991, attending St. Ignatius Church in Southeast Portland. She worked most of her adult life at Reed College as the faculty secretary for the humanities and many other departments. She retired due to health reasons in 2014. Those who met her at Reed may remember her for Shem Nettle, a Dandie Dinmont terrier she brought to work every day. 

She married Robert Bondaruk in 1965. He was in the Air Force and the two lived around the world.

She is survived by her children, Robert and Sara Dawn; siblings Dick Bancroft of Portland, Trey Anderson of Keizer and Sue Currie of Oceanside, California; and four grandchildren.

She was cremated at Gethsemani Funeral Home and was buried with her mother, Irene Bancroft, at Multnomah Park Cemetery.
