A fall pro-life vigil campaign in the Portland area has been hit by malicious and fake sign-ups. 40 Days for Life, which runs through Oct. 31, has an online system for volunteers to schedule times to stand in prayerful protest at local abortion sites. National 40 Days for Life workers are addressing the problem, but meantime, legitimate volunteers are asked to post a note of explanation about their motives.

“Don’t be afraid to sign up on the vigil site. It may look full/100% covered, but it’s NOT,” said a note to pro-life supporters from organizer Therese Ruesink, a member of St. Rose of Lima and Holy Rosary parishes in Northeast Portland. “Remember, God told us not to be afraid, 365 times, in the Bible. So I think he means it.”
