NEWBERG — Providence Newberg Health Foundation received a $188,000 gift from The Austin Family Foundation to address behavioral health services and housing. The grant will provide recovery space for people with behavioral health conditions, chronic medical needs, and/or housing instability.

The grant allows Providence to obtain a master lease for five motel rooms in Newberg. Current funding for a government COVID-funded temporary house projects ends this month. Providence Newberg’s Out of the Cold Program will serve Providence clients with emergency housing circumstances. These are people who are medically fragile, with families who need help.

The program expects to serve 20 people during the course of the year with 70% of clients successfully transitioning to stable housing.

Providence will supply medical and behavioral health care, and Providence Newberg Health Foundation will bring money to the project as needed. Providence will also provide staff benefits and indirect costs such as computers and administrative support.
