The Ancient Order of Hibernians honored Judge Diarmuid O’Scannlain at a May meeting. Senior Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, O'Scannlain is a first-generation Irish-American son of immigrant parents from Sligo and Derry. He told Hibernians how his father and grandfather fought for a united, independent Ireland.

Bill Gallagher, chief of the local chapter of the AOH, declared O’Scannlain and his wife Maura honorary members of the organization. The group meets regularly at Kells Irish Pub in Southwest Portland and has been focusing on history.
