while some are out there sweeping in souls for the church and using it as an excuse to NOT care for the poor, the weak, the needy, the hungry and the prisoner, i will do what I think I am called to do. It is obvious to me that it is easier for some to follow the Lord from their prayerbooks and pews. For me, it is in service, that I meet my Lord and God in the feet and faces of those I serve and I recognize them because i strive always to be present and therefore always and all ways to be in prayer. I accept what you do in Christ's name why do you judge me to be less than Christian in what i do?

The social justice emphasis has nearly swept away our concern for the salvation of souls. Thank you for providing balance.

Amen! And may your message be repeated often and loudly in your archdiocese.
For, regarding this sentence: "They think if we do service projects for the poor and needy, and don’t make any judgments about human behavior and sin, then we are fulfilling the Gospel mandate."
"They" think that because that is what they only hear everywhere, including and especially and tragically from the ambo's, the most stunning change that had occurred in the Church in my decades of absence from it. Once all knew to be concerned over what came next for all after this life and our relevant responsibilities for that as you say today that is not so, again including and especially from ambo teaching.

Finally, a Shepherd doing his job! - telling the truth simply and succinctly. Wish we had just one of you in our diocese. God bless you

Archbishop Sample, thank you from Omaha, Nebraska!
The faithful need to hear our bishops, all of them, speak and write like this, to remind us of what is most important.

God bless Archbishop Sample! I teach high school CCD and one of my strongest messages is "The Last Four Things - death, judgment, heaven and hell." Most of the youth have never heard this teaching but are very receptive to and embrace it. It gives them the reason to try and live a moral, faith filled life and to care enough about their friends and family to confront them with the Truth when required. The amazing thing is that the DRE has asked me back for several years now because the kids want me back - the Truth sells!

Thank you, Archbishop Sample, for your courage to speak the Truth. As a Religious Education teacher for many years, I am amazed at the ongoing lack of catechesis among the parents/caretakers of my pupils. It has truly become a relativistic, earth-centered society, even within the Church! Your words:"They think if we do service projects for the poor and needy, and don’t make any judgments about human behavior and sin, then we are fulfilling the Gospel mandate" describe the popular "half-way theology" exactly. We need to hear more of what you have said and from other shepherds as well. May God be with you and please, for the sake of so many souls, keep up the good work!
