I also think this is a disservice to our more elderly parishioners and more rural parishes. Couldn't you switch to once a month instead of canceling entirely?

As a regular reader and part time contributor, I am saddened and dismayed by the Sentinel/ El Centinela ’s demise. Those publications provided a window into our Catholic Community for Catholics and non-Catholics. They helped build community and provide a Catholic perspective on the world. Instead of “throwing open windows of the church”, one will close.

I wonder how the Archbishop's plan for evangelization takes seriously the LORD's call for us to live synodally, co-operating and being co-responsible unto greater Communion, Participation, and Mission. The Archdiocese would do well to consult/ partner with The Grotto Network for effective evangelization and catechesis lest they inadvertently turn people *away from* faith.

I was saddened to read the Sentinel would be discontinued. Small parishes, of which there are many, outside the larger metro areas have been kept informed of the larger church. The Sentinel had well written articles of interest.
My question, as a church organist: Will OCP continue the musical updates sent every 4 years to supplement the musical offerings of Breaking Bread

End of an era. End of information and valuable news for Catholics. End of times that shared the good heart of Catholics. I feel inspire with stories that showed me how to be a good Catholic. The Sentinel shared those stories. As former editor of the sister newspaper El Centinela, I'm grateful with The Sentinel for sharing the stories I wrote and stories of immigrants. RIP.

This is most sad and devastating news. The people of our parish always look forward to the next edition of the Sentinel, and its an avenue that the elderly can best access. The writing and coverage effort has been consistent and outstanding. I'm sad for the great staff of the Catholic Sentinel, and for all of us who have thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful publication.

Yes, very sad to hear this. My little opinion is that in today's world we need such hard copy and media copy to Evangelize. Media / electronic will not be adequate for our challenging church world. Too bad we do not have a few investors to keep this going at some level for our Catholic & reader faithful. Communication is so important!!! thank you John

As a young Southern Baptist boy in Ashland, OR, I found The Sentinel. I'd never seen such a thing and it was a marvel to behold in those more innocent days. For over 60 years it has provide me information and the comings and goings in our Archdiocese which manifested our being Catholic. There is no joy in Mudville this morning as the news came! RIP.

This morning as several of us arrived for daily Mass the only thing we talked about was our disbelief that we were losing the Catholic Sentinel! We all are heartbroken as the Sentinel has been such an important part of keeping up with the local and worldwide Church. Thank you to Ed Langlois and all the writers and staff for your wonderful work in keeping us informed!
