Victor Calzaretta died June 27. He was 72.
Mr. Calzaretta was born May 8, 1942, in Chicago to Victor Calzaretta Sr. and Lucille Moisant Calzaretta. He attended school in Camas and joined the Army in 1961. He was stationed in Germany and was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Unit. He married Heidi and moved back to Chicago, where he worked as a police officer. In 1970, the family moved to Vancouver, where he worked as a Clark County deputy, rising to the rank of chief criminal deputy. During this time, he earned a bachelor’s degree at City University and continued on with his graduate studies at the University of Portland, earning master’s degrees in administration of justice and education. He attended Northwestern School of Law at Lewis and Clark College, earning a J.D. in 1982. He married Anita Huffman Baker and practiced law in Portland until his retirement in 2012. In 2010, he married Susan Campbell Calzaretta.
He was preceded in death by his second wife, Anita Huffman Calzaretta; parents, Lucille and Ray Schechla; parents, Victor Calzaretta Sr. and Jane Calzaretta; and son, Daniel Calzaretta. He is survived by his son, Richard Calzaretta; daughter, Diane Miller; brothers, William Calzaretta, Robert Calzaretta, Rich Calzaretta and Joseph Schechla; sister, Patricia Schechla; and six grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, July 25, at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Lake Oswego, with a celebration of life immediately following.
