KEY BISCAYNE, Fla. — Marie Terese Stevens McNamara, a former Oregon Catholic, died here June 17. She was 89.
Mrs. McNamara was born May 18, 1925, in Albany, Ore. She moved to Portland where her father was a bridge engineer for Western Pacific Railroad. She graduated from Holy Redeemer High School and Marylhurst University in Portland. She taught elementary school in the U.S. Canal Zone for more than 20 years between 1953 and 1982. She was married for 52 years to James Martin McNamara until he preceded her in death in 2005. She and her husband moved to Dothan, Ala., in 1982. She was a devoted member of St. Columba Parish in Dothan. She taught the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine and Bible studies for years, and devoted many years of community service to Catholic Social Services.
She is survived by her son, James; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass was celebrated Friday, June 20, at St. Columba Church, in Dothan, Ala.
