COOS BAY — Steven Jay Hensler, formerly a parishioner at St. Monica Parish here, died April 27. He was 64.
Mr. Hensler was born Oct. 26, 1949, in Albany. He moved with his family to Coos Bay in 1957, where he attended high school. He graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelor’s degree. He worked for American Job Corps in Coos Bay in the 1970s and ‘80s and later owned and operated Chips Mahoney, a tavern in North Bend. He also worked for Portland Public Schools, the state of Oregon and Nike. He moved to Guadalajara, Mexico, in 2006 to teach English, where he retired.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Betty Hensler, Coos Bay; and sister, Mary Thrasher, Portland. He is survived by his brothers, Tom Hensler, Albany, Doug (Janie) Hensler, Monterey, Calif., John (Claudene) Hensler, Gresham, and Patrick Hensler, Vancouver; sister, Judy (Tim) Bailey, Portland; brother-in-law, Rod Thrasher Portland; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and -nephews.
