Dr. Daniel DeMerell died April 22. He was 44.

Dr. DeMerell was born Oct. 31, 1969, to Jerry and Terry DeMerell. He graduated from Creighton Prep High School in Omaha, Neb. He earned bachelor’s, master’s in public health and medical degrees at the University of Arizona. After medical school, he completed his pediatric residency at Tulane University in New Orleans, La. He was appointed chief resident of the Tulane Pediatric residency program. After completing his chief residency year he went on to complete a fellowship in allergy, asthma and immunology.

He married Constance “Connie” Herkes in New Orleans in 2004. They moved to Portland in 2005,where he joined the medical practice, Allergy, Asthma, and Dermatology Associates, P.C.

He was preceded in death by his sister Beth Berg in 2010. He is survived by his wife Connie DeMerell; children Keegan (7), Finnegan (4) and Grace (9 months); parents; sister Amy DeMerell; nephew and niece, Grant and Megan Berg and their father Ken Berg.

A funeral will be held at St. Pius X Church at 11:30 a.m., on May 17. Memorial donations can be made to Camp Blue Spruce at www.campbluespruce.org or by check to Camp Blue Spruce, 3519 NE 15th Ave, #225, Portland, OR 97212.  Please note on the check that it is for the Dr. DeMerell Memorial Fund.

Dan was a beloved colleague, and compassionate physician which I know from both personal and professional interactions with him over the last 3 years. He has been so very helpful to me in so many ways. My family and I are so sorry for his passing.
