Katherine Powell

Katherine (Kitty) Louise Powell died April 21. She was 46.

Mrs. Powell was born July 16, 1967, in The Dalles to James Dale and Mary Ann (Jeffreys) Powell. She attended St. Mary's Academy and graduated from The Dalles High School in 1985. In 1989, she graduated from Georgetown University with degrees in economics and government. She worked at Washington Legal Foundation in Washington, D.C., before completing an MBA at Stanford University in 1993. She served as a strategy consultant with Mercer Management Consulting in San Francisco for six years before she and her husband Mark moved to Portland and founded a software company, which they sold in 2004. She began working for Providence Health & Services in 2005, most recently serving as chief innovation officer of accountable care services.

She was preceded in death by her father Jim Powell. She is survived by her husband, Mark Swinth; children, Emily Ann, Kira Lee, Tucker James and Milo Jackson; mother, Mary Ann Powell; sister, Holly (Powell) Walrod-Whitehurst (Todd Whitehurst); brother, Mark Powell; nephews and niece; in-laws, M. Heather Jackson and Robert Swinth; sister-in-law, Kirsten Swinth; nephew and niece; aunts and uncles; and numerous cousins.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at St. Peter Church in The Dalles.Vault interment will follow in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery. A reception will follow at Clock Tower Ales Pub, 311 Union Street.

A celebration of her life will be held in Portland, on the afternoon of Saturday, June 7. The time and location are to be determined. Memorial donations can be made to the an educational fund to benefit her children, which is being arranged through PayPal with details to be provided at a later date.
