SALEM — Michael Fajer, a member of St. Vincent de Paul Parish since 1956, died April 19. He was 86.
Mr. Fajer was born July 31, 1927, in Portland to Michael Steve Fajer and Elizabeth Janis Fajer. He attended St. Patrick School and Commerce High School. He enlisted in the Navy in 1945. After World War II, he attended University in Portland, graduating with a degree in business administration in 1950. He married Joy Yvonne Crosswhite in 1951 and moved to Eugene. In 1953, he moved his family to Salem, where he worked for the State of Oregon for 32 years, retiring in 1983. After Joy died in 2001, he married Dorothy Mae Gysin in 2004.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter Elizabeth in 1986. He survived by his second wife, Dorothy Gysin Fajer; children, Michael Vincent, David James, Keith Allen and Mary Frances Gritta; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 1010 Columbia St. N.E. Viewing will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2014, followed by a recitation of the rosary at 7 p.m., both at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
