HILLSBORO — Margaret Angela Lillegard, a member of St. Matthew Parish here, died April 7. She was 89.
Mrs. Lillegard was born Jan. 21, 1925 in Hillsboro. She was the fourth oldest of nine children born to Ben and Maria (VanNiewenhuyse) Coussens. She was raised on the family farm and graduated from Hillsboro Union High in 1943. She later attended Pacific University for two years. Following college she worked for Terminal Ice in Hillsboro.
She met her future husband, Albert Vincent Lillegard while at a dance they were soon married and started their home in Hillsboro. He preceded her in death in 2000.
A homemaker, she worked as a community volunteer at Hillsboro schools and at the Washington County Election Board.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents and three siblings; Albert Coussens, Sr. Agnes Coussens and Madeline Foelker.
She is survived by her two daughters and their spouses; Karen and Kevin Kelly, Portland, Joan and Byron Zahler, Portland, five grandsons and three great-grandchildren.
The family suggest donations in Margaret's name to the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon Retirement Fund in honor of Sister Agnus Coussens or to St. Matthew's Catholic Church in Hillsboro.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 14, at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 475 S.E. Third Ave., Hillsboro.
