Duane Spiering

HILLSBORO — Duane Joseph Spiering, a member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Roy and a resident of Banks, died at Avameer Care Center here April 5. He was 80.

Mr. Spiering was born Aug. 4, 1933 in Roy. He was one of seven children born to Lawrence and Rita (Vandehey) Spiering. He was raised on the family farm and attended St Francis Grade School. He graduated from Banks High School.

He was single most all of his life until he met through mutual friends his future wife, Coralee (Meeuwsen)  Vandervelden.They were married in November of 1981 in Reno, Nev. Following their marriage they made their home in on the farm in Banks.

Mr. Spieriing bought his farm in 1955. He grew wheat, clover, berries, cucumbers barley, oats and cattle. He served on the Banks Fire District board and on the Star Satellite Water District. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister; Joanne.

He is survived by his wife; Coralee, her four children and their spouses; Susan and Rudy Enriquez, Banks; Bill and Jeanette Vandervelden, Portland; Mary and Cary Lafreniere, Portland; Jerry and Debbie Vandervelden, Banks; three siblings and their spouses; Ron and Debra Spiering, Banks; Alan and Margo Spiering, Banks; Sharon Wood Rackleman and Rick Rackleman, California; four grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary and funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, at St Francis Catholic Church in Roy.

Rite of Christian Burial and Vault interment will follow the Mass held at St Francis Cemetery in Roy.
