Helen Grace Bedney died March 4. She was 100.
Mrs. Bedney was born Oct. 15, 1913, in Kasson, Minn., to Allen and Grace Chase. She graduated from Kasson High School in 1930, and Mankato State Teachers College in 1932, with a degree in elementary education. She married Ambrose “Slim” Bedney. In 1953, they moved to Portland where she taught school at St. Ignatius, St. Peter's, Sauvie Island and Joseph Lane. She earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Marylhurst College in 1964.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983; two sons-in-law; and foster son, Joseph Cran. She is survived by her children, Beverly Vojta, Barbara Rutherford (William), Betty Jo Brouillard (Donald), Bernard, Mary Funk, Teri Wright, Michael (Adriana), Daniel (Molly) and Debra (Michael); 28 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. with a recitation of the rosary at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 12, at St. Agatha Church. Memorial donations can be made to St. Agatha's School.
