Dominican Sister M. Eucharia Heidt died Feb. 16. She was 87.
Born May 12, 1926, in New England, N.D., Sister Eucharia was a Dominican sister for 67 years. Her family moved to Mount Angel when she was 8. Her ministry was in elementary education at schools in California, as well as St. Therese, Immaculate Heart and St. Joseph schools in Portland. She also ministered at the Dominican motherhouse and in Germany. In 2009, her ministry became the apostolate of prayer.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Monica Heidt, Woodburn; and her siblings, Michael Heidt, Mount Angel; August Heidt, McMinnville; Robert Heidt, Veneta; and Father Eugene Heidt, Archdiocese of Portland. She is survived by her sisters, Marie Stobie (Ray), Portland; Sylvia Sullivan, Mobile, Ala.; and Carole (William), Washington; and her nephew, Father Steve Stobie, a priest in the Archdiocese of Portland, and 38 other nieces and nephews.
Father Stobie celebrated a Mass of Christian burial at the Dominican Sisters’ Chapel in Fremont, Calif.
