James Zimmer, a longtime member of Holy Redeemer Church, died Feb. 7. He was 80.
Mr. Zimmer was born June 28, 1933, in Portland to Edward and Ruth Zimmer. He attended Holy Redeemer and Jefferson High schools. He served in the Navy from 1950-‘53. He married Jan Cierzan in 1953. He worked for the Oregon Humane Society for 21 years and owned and operated Zimmer’s Boarding Kennel and Zimmer’s Grooming Salon. He worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad as a switchman for 37 years, retiring in 1994.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Denny and Tom Zimmer. He is survived by his wife of 60 years Jan; children, Larry (Judy) Zimmer, Julie (Walt) Howe, Nancy (Dory) Zimmer and Katie (Steve) Milojevic; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 12, at Holy Redeemer Church in Portland.
