CORVALLIS — Ethelyn Lucille (Gearin) Brown died Jan. 28. She was 90.
Mrs. Gearin was born in 1923 in Newberg to Helen and Dewey Gearin. She grew up in McMinnville and married Lynn Baxter in 1943. They settled in Eugene, where she attended St. Mary Parish and was a founding member of St. Peter Parish. After her husband died, she returned to school and went to work for the Eugene Water and Electric Board in the benefits office. She married Gene Brown in 1978.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; daughter, Janice Baxter; siblings, Richard Gearin, Curtis Gearin, and Patrick Gearin; and brothers- and sisters-in-law, Louise Gearin, John Bates, Jesse Rolph, and Marvin Montgomery. She is survived by her children, Rolland Baxter (Paulette), Corvallis, Linda Baxter Harris (Bob), Berkeley, Calif.; siblings: Patricia Bates, Marilyn Rolph, Garry (Sue) Gearin, Marcella Montgomery; sister-in-law, Rose Gearin; step-children: Darla Hochhalter and Darrel Brown; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A Mass was celebrated at St. Peter Church in Eugene. Memorial donations can be made to the Baxter/Brown Family Scholarship, Oregon State University Foundation.
