Edward “Ralph” Johnson died Jan. 18. He was 67.
Mr. Johnson was born Nov. 2, 1946, in El Paso, Texas. He moved to Portland at age 10 and graduated from Woodstock Elementary and Benson High School. Upon graduation in 1964, he enlisted in the Coast Guard and trained to be an engineman, serving during the Vietnam War. Upon completion of active duty, he continued military service in the Coast Guard Reserves for 25 years. He married Susan in 1970 in Glen Burnie, Md. He was hired at Portland General Electric in 1980 as a diesel mechanic. Later, he became a safety specialist/trainer of the truck fleet for commercial drivers' licenses. He retired from PGE in 2006.
He is survived by his wife Susan; son, Joseph Johnson (Sherri); a grandson; sister, Jennifer Johnson; and brothers, Tom Johnson (Janey) and Douglas Johnson (Carol Ann).
A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Joseph the Worker Church. Memorial donations can be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society.
