LAKE OSWEGO — Mary Elizabeth Muggli, a member of Our Lady of the Lake Parish, died Dec. 23. She was 92.
Mrs. Muggli was born April 19, 1921, to James and Mary Hardy near Beach, N.D. After high school, she attended the Dickinson State Teachers College in nearby Dickinson, N.D. She received a bachelor's degree in education in 1943. After college, she taught grades 1-8 in a one-room schoolhouse and married George Muggli in 1944.
She and her family moved to Tracy, Calif., in 1957 and Grandview, Wash., in 1958. In Grandview, they opened and operated the George Muggli Ford dealership. She worked at Catholic Charities serving women while she lived in Washington. In the early 1980s, after her husband’s death, she closed the dealership and moved to Lake Oswego.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1977; nine brothers; and twin sister. She is survived by her brother, Paul Hardy; children, Jane Stickney, Pamela Long (Jerrold), Debra Paynter (James), Daniel Muggli (Linda) and Michelle Monsey (Michael); seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Lake Oswego.
