Richard Carney

Richard Carney died Nov. 28. He was 90.

Mr. Carney was born Dec. 22, 1922, in Portland to Michael and Bridget Carney. He attended St. Patrick's, Chapman, Columbia Preparatory and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1936. He studied business at the University of Portland, but his studies were interrupted while he served in the Navy during World War II. He finished his studies at Harvard, and went on to earn a degree from University of Oregon's Law School in 1949. He joined the firm of Tanner and Clarke specializing in labor law and personal injury cases. Later he created his own firm. For seven years, he taught law students at Lewis & Clark College about labor law. He retired from Carney, Hays & Marsh after 52 years of practicing law focused on labor relations.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary; daughter, Helen Miller; two granddaughters; twin brother, Robert; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Thomas More Church.
