Gwendolyn Coffey

Gwendolyn “Gwen” Newhouse Coffey died Nov. 10. She was 93.

Mrs. Coffey was born July 5, 1920, in Vancouver, B.C., to Gerald Downing Newhouse and Enid Agassiz Newhouse. She was raised in Portland and attended Madeleine Grade School, Holy Child Academy and Lincoln High School. She married Jay Russell Coffey Jr. in 1940.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1978; sister, Pat Kern, 2010; and son, Tom, 2010. She is survived by her sons, Russell (Crystal) and Gerry; daughter, Josie Whisnant (Gene); six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and stepsister, Marjorie Newhouse.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at The Madeleine Church. Memorial donations can be made to The Madeleine Church, 3123 N.E. 24th Ave., Portland, OR 97212.
