Milton Eugene Hoffman died Oct. 29. He was 86.
Mr. Hoffman was born Feb. 14, 1927, born in Sheridan, Wyo., and moved to Dalton Gardens, Idaho, when he was 8 years old. He worked on the family farm, and attended school in Dalton and Coeur d'Alene. In 1944, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served during World War II. He married Margaret Crowley in 1948.
He attended North Idaho Junior College, then Eastern Washington University earning a bachelor’s degree in education, with an emphasis on industrial education, and a minor in natural science. He earned a master’s degree in education from Oregon State University. He and his family moved to Portland, where he taught industrial arts and drafting for more than 20 years at Benson Polytechnic High School. He finished his career teaching vocational education at Lake Oswego High School, and retired in 1992.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret; children, Susan Longhurst, Grants Pass; Jayne Hoffman, Sheridan, Wyo.; and Milton Hoffman II, Nehalem; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass and celebration of his life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at St. Thomas Church in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho. Memorial donations can be made to Fresh Start, 1524 E. Sherman Ave., Coeur d'Alene, ID 83814.
