Mary Margaret Sykes died Oct. 15. She was 76.
Mrs. Sykes was born April 27, 1937, in Portland. She attended Ainsworth Elementary and St. Helens Hall in Portland, and Punahou School in Hawaii. She married Randolph Sykes and the family settled in Chapman, where she lived until her husband died in 1989 and she moved to Portland. She worked for commissioners Mike Lindburgh and Margaret Strachan at the city of Portland. After retiring, she moved to Vernonia, and relocated to Scappoose in 2007.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edna and William Murray; husband, Randy Sykes; and half sister, Kathy Murray. She is survived by her brothers, Bob and Barry Murray; half brothers, Bill and Donald Murray; children, Randolph (Lorene), Norman, Michael (Gail), Gerald (Lynn), Deborah, Darryl (Shawna) and Duane (Tammy); 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
A memorial celebration will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 16, at St. Wenceslaus Church in Scappoose.
