Br. Maurus Kreutzer, OSB, dies

MOUNT ANGEL — Brother Maurus Kreutzer, OSB, a monk at Mount Angel Abbey, died Oct. 1. He was 85.

Born in Sheridan, = on Sept. 18, 1928, to George and Helen Kreutzer, Brother Maurus entered the Abbey in 1948, made his first monastic profession in 1950, and professed his final vows in 1953. Brother Maurus had different assignments over the years including gardening, plumbing, maintenance and kitchen work, along with work at the St. Benedict Post Office and Benedictine Press.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two older brothers, and three sisters. He is survived by his younger brother, Fred (Sheila), and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

The Mass of Resurrection was celebrated at the Abbey Church.
