Holy Names Sister Mary Patricia “Pat” McKenzie (Sr. Regina Maureen) died Oct. 4. She was 72.
Born in Seattle to William and Mary Thompson McKenzie, young Sister Pat moved to Portland with her three siblings to attend elementary school at St. Rose and high school at Holy Child Academy. She entered the novitiate at Marylhust, received the name Sister Regina Maureen and made vows in 1963.
After studying at Marylhurst College, she taught middle grades at St. Vincent in Salem, St., Francis in Bend, and St. Ignatius, St. Andrew and Holy Redeemer in Portland. She also served as director of religious education at St. Peter Church in Portland. She worked for 15 years as attendance secretary at St. Mary’s Academy, in Portland, where she served as friend and mentor to students. After Parkinson’s disease forced Sister Pat to stop working, she retired at Mary’s Woods.
Sister Pat is survived by her brothers, Michael and John; nieces and nephews; and the members of her religious community.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Provincial House Chapel.
