GRESHAM — Martin “Marty” Hietpas Sr., a member of St. Henry Church, died Sept. 21. He was 94.
Mr. Hietpas was born April 30, 1919, to Albert and Mary Hietpas. While in grade school, he moved to Cut Bank, Mont., where his mother was a housekeeper for his newly ordained uncle, Father Gerald Hietpas of the White Fathers. As a young man, he worked in the oil fields of the Texas Oil Company and married Sheivonne Rolph. After a series of moves, they settled in the Gresham area in 1956. He worked as an oiler for heavy construction equipment out of Local 701.
He was preceded in death by his wife Sheivonne; and daughters, Monica Hodge and Margaret Marshall. He is survived by his children, Ann Wygal, Martin Hietpas Jr., James Hietpas, Robert Hietpas and Theresa O'Doherty; 23 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
A scriptural rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 29, at Gresham Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 30, at St. Henry Church in Gresham.
