Joan Irene Collins, a member of Holy Redeemer Parish, died July 28. She was 87.
Mrs. Collins was born Aug. 1, 1925, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Jack and Mary Bartosic. She completed nurses training at the College of St. Scholastica in Duluth. She married Kevin Collins at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Portland in 1952. She worked nights for several years at a care facility in Northwest Portland and was a homemaker.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 2005. She is survived by her nine children, Michael (Phyllis), Portland; Timothy Portland; Shaun Larson (Leonard), Scappoose; Maureen, Atlanta, Ga.; Molly Hape (Dr. Robin), Grand Forks, N.D.; Thad (Therese), Beaverton; Kieran (Tracie), Vancouver; Major Matthew USMC Ret. (Heidi), Jupiter, Fla.; and Commander Peter USN (Kris), San Diego, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Holy Redeemer Church Wednesday, July 31, at 11:30 a.m., preceded by a rosary at 11 a.m. Memorial donations can be made to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul or to the Blanchet House of Hospitality.
