Holy Names Sister Rae Skinner (Sr. Elizabeth Maureen) died June 30. She was 90.
Born in Jordan Valley to Thomas and Violet Glover Skinner, she graduated from Jordan Valley High School. She spent a year at Marylhurst College and entered the Holy Names novitiate in 1942.
After leaving the novitiate, Sister Elizabeth Maureen earned a bachelor’s degree in education and a master’s of education from the University of Portland. She taught middle grades in at Sacred Heart in Medford, St. Joseph in Salem, St. Mary in Eugene, and Holy Redeemer and the Madeleine in Portland. A principal, she served in that capacity at St. Peter in Portland, and St. Vincent and St. Joseph in Salem.
She spent six years in administration for the Oregon province as associate provincial. During a sabbatical year, she attended the Credo program at Gonzaga University in Spokane. She became director of the associate program, taught RCIA, and was a spiritual director and consultant at St. John the Baptist in Milwaukie. After retirement, she moved to Mary’s Woods.
Sister Rae is survived by her nieces and nephews and the members of her religious community.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at the Provincial House Chapel.
