Mary McKendry died May 29. She was 90.
Mrs. McKendry was born Nov. 7, 1922, in De Moines, Iowa. She was an IBM operator, both in and out of the military. Her high school education was augmented by courses supplied by IBM and the Navy. She started as keypunch operator and worked her way up to computer programmer. Her military service was in the WAVES during WWII in Washington, D.C., and the USNR during the Korean War at Great Lakes, Ill.
She married Stanley De Bell in 1953. He died in July 1963. Shortly after her marriage she left the Navy and went to work for Snap-On Tools at their main office in Kenosha, Wis. In 1967, she married James McKendry, and they moved to Independence. He died in 1989.
She was a member of St. Mary Church in Mount Angel at the time of her death, but she had previously volunteered at St. Patrick Church in Independence, serving many years as business manager. In 1999, she moved to Mount Angel.
She was preceded in death by siblings, Joseph Tenny and Margaret Frost. She is survived by brothers, John Tenny, Pacific City; Edwin Tenny, Cedar Hill, Mo.; sisters, Rozanne Karr, Wapella, Ill., and hundreds of nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at Mount Angel Towers.
