Mary Madeline Miller Classen, a member of St. Rose, St. Charles and Christ the King parishes, died March 30. She was 96.
Mrs. Classen was born March 10, 1917, in Gervais, the ninth of Valentine and Dorothy Miller’s 13 children. She grew up on their Oak Grove Farm. After graduating from Mt. Angel Normal College, she taught school in Monitor until she married Herman Classen in 1939. After a few years in Salem, they moved to Portland where they raised their six children. They moved to Milwaukie in 1967.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; 11 siblings and their spouses; daughter-in-law Ellen Morrisroe Classen; and a grandson. She is survived by her children Kathy (Ed) Swanson; Tom (Linda) Classen; Ray; Dan (Colleen); Elaine (David) Park; and Rob (Joann); 21 grandchildren, great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; brother Valentine (Delores) Miller; brothers-in-law Al Classen and Tony Classen; sister-in-law Loretta Weber; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, April 5, at Christ the King Church in Milwaukie. Memorial contributions can be made to Christ the King Parish.
