Joehana Barbara (Smith) Bartolomeo, a Catholic, died Feb. 15. She was 94.
Mrs. Bartolomeo was born March 23, 1918, the second daughter of Margaret and Tony Smith of Merrillville, Ind. She grew up on the family dairy farm and worked in the dairy store. In 1940, she graduated from Mount Mary College in Milwaukee, Wis., with a degree in dietetics. She spent a year interning at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. She followed her fiancé, Francis (Bart) Bartolomeo, to the Panama Canal Zone. They married in 1942. They returned to the United States in 1950, eventually settling in California, living in Fresno, Encino and Downey. She worked as a substituted teacher as well as in a bookstore.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bart; sister, Anabel; and brothers, George, Gerald, Anthony and Clarence. She is survived by her brother, Raymond; daughters, Vicki (John) Cameron and Judy (Rob Winike) Daniels; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private service will be held.
