Judith Ann Mills, a member St. Mark and St. Paul parishes in Eugene, St. Helen Parish in Junction City, and Queen of Peace Parish in Salem, died Jan. 5. She was 73.
Mrs. Mills was born Nov. 17, 1939, in McHenry, Ill., to Elmer and Helen Louise Montgomery. She lived in California and Washington during her childhood. She graduated from Bellevue High School in 1957, and went on to attended Pacific University in Forest Grove. In 1962, she completed her bachelor’s degree in elementary education at University of Oregon. Her first job as a teacher was at Pleasant Hill Elementary where she taught for two years. In 1963, she married Elvin Mills in Eugene. She was a stay-at-home mom and returned to teaching as a substitute. In the mid-‘70s, she developed the kindergarten program at St. Mary School (O'Hara Catholic School) in Eugene. In 1976, she started teaching at Laurel Elementary in Junction City, retiring in 2000. She and her husband moved to Salem several years ago.
She is survived by her husband, Elvin; brother Richard Glee Montgomery, Gig Harbor, Wash.; sister Virginia Gay Moi Moi, Ferndale, Wash.; son, Blake Mills, Hillsboro; daughters, Kelly Mills and Ramona Murtha, both of Salem; five grandchildren; 12 brothers- and sisters- in-law; and many nieces and nephews.
