Richard LeRoy Smith died Nov. 27. He was 88.
Mr. Smith was born Aug. 25, 1924, in Portland to John and Mae Smith. He served in the Navy during World War II, and then earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Oregon in 1948. He worked as a CPA for Arthur Young and Company in Portland from 1948-‘65, then moved with his family to Santa Rosa, Calif., where he worked for Molalla Forest Products. In 1971, he joined Sierra Pacific Industries in Arcata, Calif., where he worked as treasurer until his retirement in 1992.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Smith; and sister, Zelma McCafferty. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marcella (Neiger); daughters, Susan Kolb (George), Bend, and Teresa Ward, Chico, Calif.; sons, Douglas Smith (Colleen), San Jose, Calif., Daniel Smith (Kina), Hayward, Calif., and Richard Smith II (Pam), Highlands Ranch, Colo.; and 12 grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Monday, Dec. 17, at St. Therese Church in Portland.
