MILWAUKIE — Gertrud Metz, a member of Christ the King Church for 40 years, died Nov. 18. She was 92.
Mrs. Metz was born Jan. 8, 1920, in Strehlen, Germany. She met her husband Paul in 1947 on a farm in Germany where he sought work after he was unable to return to his Estonian homeland after World War II due to the Russian occupation. They were married in Germany in 1954 and later immigrated to the United States in 1956 with their son Armin. Passing through New York City, San Antonio, Los Angeles, and Eugene, they settled in Milwaukie in 1966.
She was preceded in death by six of her seven siblings, including a brother who died in WWII; husband Paul in 1985, and daughter-in-law, Crystal, in 2010. She is survived by her sons, Peter and Armin, daughter-in-law, Millet, all of Milwaukie; a sister in Germany; four step-grandchildren, and eight step-great grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 30, at Christ the King Church in Milwaukie, preceded by the rosary at 10:30 a.m.
