Velma Jean [VanDomelen] Vandehey died Nov. 16. She was 81.
Mrs. Vandehey was born July 23, 1931, in Mountaindale. She was raised in Kansas City and attended Banks Grade School and Banks High School, graduating in 1949. She married Ignatius Vandehey in 1953 at St. Francis Church in Roy. Following their marriage, they lived in Verboort and then moved to Aloha for five years. In 1958 they moved back to Roy. She was a homemaker, but also worked outside the home as a field boss for local farmers, and at two family-owned businesses (Action Video and Touch of Dutch, both in Hillsboro).
She is preceded in death by her parents and four siblings; Darlene VanDomelen, Rita Gorman, Gertrude “Sis” Marshall, and Vincent “Bud” VanDomelen. She is survived by her husband, Ignatius; five children, Robert, Karen, Edward, Jane and Jill; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
A rosary and funeral Mass will start at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at the St. Francis Church in Roy.
