Marilyn Kirvin died Aug. 30. She was 54.
Mrs. Kirvin was born Aug. 9, 1958, in Greeley, Colo. She grew up in Arvada, Colo., and graduated from Arvada High School. She earned a bachelor’s degree in theology from the University of Steubenville (1980), a Master of Divinity from the Weston Jesuit School of Theology (1984) and a master’s degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
She began her career at the campus ministry office at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Wash, and moved to Portland in 1990. She was a therapist at the Samaritan Counseling Center and then went on to co-found The Jesuit Spirituality Center. She worked for a year at St. Clare Parish, and concluded her working life by spending two years at the Franciscan Spiritual Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Annette and Donald. She is survived by her sons, Matthew and Andrew; sister Susie; brother Dave, sister-in-law, Brigette; and one niece and nephew.
A vigil will be at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 5, followed by a funeral at 1 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 6, both at St. Clare Church. Memorial donations can be made to her children’s college funds, at www.friendsofmarilyn.org.
