The wooden interior arches are a nod to traditional church architecture and are visible from the façade through a skylight that wraps around the entire building.
The annual International Religious Art and Architecture Design Awards program awarded di loreto Architecture an award for the church’s design, which will be featured in the winter 2015 awards issue of Faith and Form magazine. Attendees of the 2016 National Convention of the American institute of Architects in Philadelphia May 19-21, 2016.
Earlier this year, the WoodWorks Wood Products Council also gave the church a national Wood design Award.
Msgr. Timothy Verdon, author of "Art & Prayer," presents great works of art capable of evoking creative responses to the divine. The beauty of the works spurs the heart to praise God, as does the splendor found in nature. Images and architecture, he writes, can teach us and lead us to prayer as do the Scriptures, acting as "stimuli" to encounter God's presence as a feast.
The University of Portland theater program will present “The Clean House,” by Sarah Ruhl, Oct. 7-11. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. each night, except for 2 p.m. on Sunday and will be in Mago Hunt Center Theater on the University campus, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd.
The University of Portland Wind Symphony and Orchestra will open the 2015-2016 concert season on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 7:30 p.m., in Buckley Center Auditorium on the UP campus (5000 N. Willamette Blvd.). The concert is free and open to the public.
