Marylhurst faculty gathers for May 9 recital
Marylhurst University music faculty will come together for one night to showcase a diversity of music and talent at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 9 in Flavia Salon at Marylhurst University. Featured faculty include James Manuele, classical guitar; Tom Sandahl, jazz guitar; Emily Ross, French horn; Peter Whitmore, double bass; Polly Hancock-Moody, vocals; and pianists Sally Harmon and John Haek. The program will include classical, jazz and original works, such as pieces by Franz Strauss and Hector Villa-Lobos.

Musical instrument artisans gather at Marylhurst
More than 80 artisans from across the Pacific Northwest will gather at Marylhurst University, noon to 5 p.m. on April 30 and May 1, to display all types of guitars, bowed and stringed instruments, mandolins, banjos, ukes, percussion and ancient instruments. There will be more than 30 mini-performances by local professional musicians on instruments provided by the exhibitors, as well as craftsman demonstrations of instruments under construction.

COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (CNS) — Patty Duke, who had much of her childhood — and even her Catholic faith — ripped away from her by managers molding her into a child star, died March 29 in Los Angeles. She was 69.
