MOUNT ANGEL — The 2014 Abbey Bach Festival at Mount Angel Abbey will be held July 23-25. National and international musicians perform at the tranquil hilltop abbey.
Each evening begins with vespers in the Abbey Church, followed by a musical performance. Monks then serve a picnic supper. The evening’s featured classical performance begins at 8 p.m. in the Damian Center.
Wednesday features the Ensemble Caprice, Thursday the award-winning pianist Jean Saulnier, and on Friday, Marcia Hadjimarkos comes from France to play the fortepiano. She will be accompanied by soprano Julianne Baird.
In the church on Wednesday, Russian organist Sergey Kirillov, artistic director and principal conductor of the Stavropol Municipal Orchestra, will perform. The vocal chamber ensemble Tudor Choir will perform Thursday and Friday.
Picnic supper baskets include a bottle of wine and a simple supper for four guests, prepared by Paul Lieggi, the abbey's chef.
Families and friends can join in on a basket, or many guests enjoy sharing a picnic with people they have just met. Blankets and chairs are provided; some guests bring their own lawn chairs and tables.
General admission tickets for each evening are $55. General admission subscription tickets to the entire festival are $135, a savings of $30 off a single ticket. Those who want to offer special support to the festival may purchase a patron subscription for $375 or a patron ticket for $125.
