BEAVERTON — The Valley Catholic Charisma Dance Team has won four consecutive 3A/2A/1A state dance championships. With eight returnees and an equal number of rookies, the Charisma are preparing for another title defense under the leadership of 2013 Coach of the Year Jessica Anderson and Coach Megan Hoffman.
Dance team is a two-season sport that starts in September. Charisma has qualified their contemporary routine and their jazz routine for the Dance and Drill Coaches Association (DDCA) Fall Category State Championships on Dec. 7. Charisma posted two of the state’s highest scores, making history as the first 3A team to top the fall 2013 leader boards.
The dancers are finalizing both category routines while creating their winter season routine for the OSAA State Dance Team Championship on March 19-22, 2014. Charisma will debut “Leave Your Legacy” on January 25 at Canby High School, followed by competitions at Stayton, West Salem, and Thurston.
“The Charisma competes consistently against teams from all six OSAA classifications,” said Anderson. “We are prepared for this change, which could find the Charisma vying with 11-time defending 4A large team champion Stayton and two-time 4A small team champion, Crook County of Prineville.”
Anderson added, “The 2014 season will be challenging and exciting. Megan and I are committed to making Valley Catholic the school of choice for competitive dance athletes. Charisma’s success on the dance floor and in the classroom is our legacy. We couldn’t be more proud of our team.”
