Benefit concert set for UP March 3
The University of Portland Wind Symphony and Orchestra offers classical favorites and premiere performances at 5 p.m. Sunday, March 3 in Buckley Center Auditorium on campus.
In the free concert, the Wind Symphony will open with “Heart, Healing and Hope,” dedicated to health care organizations. Representatives from the American Red Cross and the Autism Society of Oregon will assist in the festivities. Musical selections will include a world premiere by composer Martin Ellerby, and an American premiere by Daisuke Shimizu. The University of Portland Orchestra will feature the music of Sergei Prokofiev. Student concerto competition winner Ryan Chien will play Prokofiev's Piano Concerto no. 1, followed by Prokofiev's most famous work, Peter and the Wolf, featuring UP’s newly-appointed provost, Tom Greene, as the narrator.
