St. Mary's Academy wins state mock trial competition

The 31st annual Oregon Mock Trial state competition brought 16 high school teams from as far as Baker City to hold trials at the Mark O. Hatfield Courthouse in downtown Portland. Two days and three rounds winnowed the competition to two finalists: St. Mary’s Academy from Portland and Lakeridge High School from Lake Oswego. Village Home Education Resource Center came in third, and the fourth place saw a rare tie between Portland’s Grant High School and Catlin Gabel School.

Student group helps sex trafficking victims
Seventh- and eighth-grade students at St. Andrew Nativity School in Portland have been hard at work raising funds for victims of sex trafficking in Oregon. The students are members of a group called Healthy Choices, led by school counselor Sonya Strickland.

Newest priest felt called to Oregon
Father Michael Jeeva Antony, administrator of St. Peter Parish in Eugene, is the Archdiocese of Portland’s newest priest, incardinated March 1.

He actually first came to the archdiocese from India in 2011, serving as parochial vicar at St. Mark Parish in Eugene until October 2012.
