I’ve been privileged to be a student at Holy Cross School in North Portland since kindergarten. In June, 28 of us will be leaving this school and I’ll miss each of them dearly.
We have shared many experiences together, but one of the most memorable has been participating in the Valley Catholic Speech Competition, a contest where students have a chance to show their public speaking skills in three different rounds: elocution, extemporaneous and impromptu.
St. Agatha School holds graduation for 25 graduates at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 11, at St. Agatha Church in Southeast Portland.
For all students at St. Agatha, school days are full of choices.
It’s 1 p.m. on a recent afternoon: Eloise Moran is learning about the justice system in mock trial class, Lehua Morley is walking around the church taking photos for PhotoCampPDX class, and Ali Winslow is doing timed squats on a balancing ball during a high-intensity training class. No, this isn’t high school; it’s middle school electives at St. Agatha in Sellwood, where classes stretch the students beyond basic education.
