FOREST GROVE — St. Anthony Parish’s second annual Summer Fest fell on one of the hottest, most humid days of 2014. In spite of the sweltering heat, 600 people showed up for games, prizes, entertainment, multicultural food booths and contests.

Community organizations also participated. Law enforcement officers provided car tours, games and entertainment, and St. Bede’s Episcopal Church set up a shady hospitality area with ice cream and drinks that was packed during the entire festival.

Representatives from 4-H provided a real-life wagon train and interactive display, and the Kiwanis Club donated a bounce house.

St. Anthony’s Hispanic dancers performed, and Urban Decanter, a Forest Grove-area wine bar, offered a wine-tasting. St. Anthony’s soccer team came in second during a tournament.

When the thermometer hit 97 degrees at 4 p.m., the parish was forced to shut down the party for the safety of its volunteers, attendees and vendors. Despite the weather, parish leaders said, the family-friendly multicultural event has become a community favorite.
