Supporters of Salem schools thanked
|Carol Ann Manzi|
SALEM — Supporters of the Salem Catholic Schools Foundation were invited to a concert last month. Guests enjoyed a performance by Carol Ann Manzi, the foundation’s artist in residence, and Robert Ashens on piano.
Manzi is an opera singer who has been teaching in Salem-area Catholic schools since October 2013. She has put together musical showcases for the schools and assisted Blanchet Catholic High School students in their performance of the musical “Cinderella.” This summer, she is conducting a workshop for student musicians.
Ashens has worked around the world. As a conductor, he has toured with the Broadway shows “A Chorus Line” and “Jesus Christ Superstar.”
The concert was held inside the home of Jack and Pam Scott of Salem, longtime supporters of the foundation’s work.
After an hour of mingling with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, guests took their seats. Song selection included Josh Groban’s “You Raise Me Up,” “I Dreamed a Dream,” from Les Miserables, and other songs from American composers Cole Porter and George Gershwin, as well as selections from the Broadway shows "Phantom of the Opera" and "Cabaret."
The performance was a thank you from the foundation to supporters.
