New president chosen for De La Salle North

De La Salle North Catholic High School in Portland has selected a new president.

Tim Hennessy, a former vice president, has accepted the position and begins June 9 at the small North Portland school, which secures internships for students to give them experience and reduce tuition costs. The school makes Catholic education affordable for children who otherwise could not afford it.
Hennessy, who has led an organization helping children touched by crime and court cases, replaces Matt Powell, the founding president of the school, who has accepted another position with the De La Salle Christian Brothers.

Hennessy served as vice president of institutional advancement 2003-’08 and remained a supporter of the school.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in English at Gonzaga University, Hennessy became a sales, fiscal, and operations manager in local businesses. In 2003, he began helping De La Salle move toward financial stability. He worked in development at the University of Portland 2008-’11 and then became executive director of Court Appointed Special Advocates. There, revenue increased by more than 40 percent in the last three fiscal years.

When presented with the opportunity to return to De La Salle, he couldn’t pass it up, he says.
“When I worked at De La Salle, I couldn't wait to get there each morning,” he says. “I loved greeting the students as they came to school. I have missed that. I look forward to standing at the top of the stairs again each morning to welcome our students."

“In Tim, De La Salle will have a passionate and dedicated president with the unique set of skills to grow this vital institution, which fosters the minds, spirits, and aspirations of the young people of North Portland,” says Ryan Hubka, chair of the Board of Trustees at De La Salle North.
