Foundation awards $500,000 to Salem schools
SALEM – The Salem Catholic Schools Foundation has given $500,000 in grants to four Salem-area Catholic schools for projects that include new roofing, playground and mechanical improvements, and purchases of computers, SMART boards and wireless networks.
The four schools receiving grants this year are Queen of Peace, St. Joseph and St. Vincent de Paul in Salem and Sacred Heart in Gervais.
The foundation provides grants to all of these schools, plus Blanchet Catholic School. Awards to Blanchet will be announced later this year.
Kevin Mannix, president of Salem Catholic Schools Foundation, is delivering checks to the schools.
Mannix says all the schools provide good education in a supportive environment, which is faith-centered but open to non-Catholics.
“We are proud of the great work done by these schools and the fine achievements of their students," he explains. "This is our way of helping the schools achieve even more in educating the children of our community.”
The foundation makes regular awards each year. These funds were made possible by a special grant from an anonymous donor.
