Father Jeff Eirvin blesses Sister Guadalupe Medina.
GERVAIS — Sacred Heart-St. Louis Parish’s Faith Formation students and parents recently surprised Sister Guadalupe Medina, coordinator of Hispanic ministry here, with a quinceañera.
Earlier in the year, Sister Guadalupe had divulged to staff that she never had a quinceañera when she turned 15.
Among some Spanish-speaking countries and many Hispanics in the United States, a girl who reaches 15 celebrates the passage from childhood to adolescence with this ritual, which expresses thanksgiving to God for the gift of life and seeks a blessing for the years ahead.
Parents of Faith Formation students arranged a reception in the gym and Father Jeff Eirvin, pastor, blessed Sister Guadalupe and presented her with a Bible and a rosary.
