Independent school honored

St. John Bosco High School, an independent Catholic school north of Salem, has been honored for the high grade point average of its basketball team. The Bosco hoopsters score high in the classroom, with a combined GPA of 3.9. The Dairy Farmers of Oregon awarded the team with sweatshirts, pins and certificates.

Meanwhile, in the Statesman Journal newspaper's "Best of the Mid Valley" contest, St. John Bosco is one of 12 finalists in the schools category, along with Regis High School in Stayton, St. Mary's in Stayton, St. Vincent de Paul in Salem and Blanchet in Salem.
